Spa Francorchamps, known to be one of the toughest race tracks in the world, played host to the 6th round of the International GT Open in Belgium. India’s Aditya Patel representing Audi India, JK Tyres and Amante along with team mate Cesar Campanico put in a splendid performance in the second race of the weekend. Although the duo suffered damage in Race one, the team repaired the car and had it running for Race two.
Patel made a magnificent start and gained four places, from eleventh on the grid, by the end of lap one. After a battle with the Porsche of Matteo Barreta, the Indian managed to settle down in fourth place in the GT3 class. He then handed the car over to Campanico during the mandatory driver change who then came back out in fourth and fought his way up into second.
Says Aditya Patel: “The weekend was not one of the easiest for sure. We knew we would struggle in terms of straight line speed but the Audi R8 LMS made up for it in the corners. It’s great to be on the podium again for the second weekend in a row. We’re now close to third in the championship and we have two race weekends to get there!”
Says Cesar Campanico: “Aditya made a great start in the second race. This set the base for us and all we had to do was fight hard and bring it across the line. Second place is more than we expected this weekend. In my opinion, this was one of the best results for our team in the last few years.”
