The King of Crime’s popular 1948 film adapted to stage by Vignesh Sridharan & Srinath Narayanan for The Madras Players & Crea-Shakthi. Directed by Abhinav Suresh.
Rope is a 1948 American psychological crime thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the 1929 play of the same name by Patrick Hamilton and adapted by Hume Cronyn and Arthur Laurents. The original play was said to be inspired by the real-life murder of 14-year-old Bobby Franks in 1924 by University of Chicago students Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb. Two brilliant young aesthetes, Brandon Shaw and Phillip Morgan, strangle to death a former classmate, David Kentley, in their apartment. They commit the crime as an intellectual exercise; they want to prove their superiority by committing the “perfect murder”.
After having directed plays like Mahesh Dattani’s Final Solutions and Poile Sengupta’s Mangalam, Abhinav Suresh returns to direct Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope. Abhinav is currently Artistic Director & Partner at Crea-Shakthi.
