Back in Feb 2016, SuperChef Chennai draws in Chennai Foodies for its Food Carnival for the first time, in addition to attracting Chennai cooks at its fourth annual cook off!

Madras Cosmopolitan Ladies Circle 38 brings to you the fourth edition of its highly successful Cook Off called SuperChef Chennai in February. The first-of-its-kind event of 2013 is back with the comfort of the familiar and the excitement of some things new! The classic two-day, high profile, cooking competition is slated for the weekend of 27th-28th February 2016. In addition this year, the cook off was preceded by SuperChef Chennai Food Carnival offering an exclusive offering of out-of-the-box food vendors to Chennai foodies on 21st February at Amir Mahal grounds, Royapettah. The event is sponsored by the Hatsun Curd and The Park Hotels, Chennai.

SuperChef Chennai Food Carnival:

True to their promise of being bigger and better in 2016; this year, for the first time, the SuperChef team along with the members of the OWC put forth a mouth watering array of food at Chennai’s First International Food Carnival on 21st February. The royal Amir Mahal grounds at Royapettah, lent this extravaganza a perfect backdrop. The exclusive offerings of out-of-the-box food vendors, over 35 food stalls, sufficient seating capacity, live music by Orlando and his team in the shimmering moonlight, made the event a real treat to all of Chennai’s foodies.

The event was inaugurated by the Prince of Arcot, Mohammed Abdul Ali and his son Dewan to the Prince of Arcot Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali. When invited upon stage to say a few words, Consul General of America, Phillip A. Min said it was true delight to be a part of this royal affair, especially with all of its proceeds going to charity and quickly took the opportunity to promote their own stall, where he spent a considerable amount of the evening handing out cookies personally. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner at Chennai.

To add to the fun were live elimination rounds, a pelude to the cook off due to happen next weekend at The Park, Vegetable Carving Contests as well as Bar Flairing contests. The distinduished panel of judges comprised of Chef Ashutosh, Executive Chef – The Park, Chef Umashankar, Mr. Prakash Viswanathan, Director Business Development – Hilton, Chef Samir Singla, Uncles Sams Kitchen and Chef Vinod Kumar.

Chef Vinoth Kumar, Sai Institute of Carving, who already has  feats recorded by the Guinness Book of Records and Miracles Book of Records, carved ice in front of an enthralled audience.

The food stalls had biryani, from the Nawab’s own kitchen to phad thai noodles that the ladies from the Thai stall of OWC members put up.  Flavourful Chicken Rice by the Singaporeans, succulent fish and chips of UK, scrumptious wood fired pizza, delectable Belgian waffles, delicious Nasi Goreng, hearty Bunny Chow tightly wrapped Sushi rolls, tasty Shepherd’s pies and yummy flap jacks, the crowd literally had the world on their plate.

By the end of the evening with bellies full but still craving for more, people were seen leaving with boxes of haleem, packets of macaroons, slices of cake, jars of peanut butter and refreshing juice concentrates.

There was an approx. footfall of over 2000 pax at the event last evening making it a complete sell out and one that Chennai’s foodies have already marked out for in the years to come.

All proceeds from this event will go to charity in the form of support to long standing health and education projects as well as long term rehabilitation of Chennai Flood victims.
